The use of technology is fundamental to the growth of the manufacturing and industrial sectors across Teesside.
As manufacturing processes and control systems become more complex, with significant data flows between entities, the threat from malicious cyber attacks grows. Most companies will face an attack this year, many may not even know, yet such incidents will lead to widespread disruption, significant costs, reputational damage and in some cases, the closure of business.
Information technologies, both existing and new need to be applied in a way that is secure, not only within the manufacturing process but across the whole supply chain. This is the thinking behind the upcoming event Cyber Security Across Manufacturing, Industry and Supply Chains, part of #CyberFest21.
#CyberFest, the North East’s biggest cyber security festival is back for its fourth year with 14 events throughout September that highlight the breadth of cyber security talent across the region.
The festival is an initiative of CyberNorth – Dynamo North East’s cyber security cluster and is presented in partnership with Accenture and the Innovation SuperNetwork. Dynamo North East is a business lead organisation working to grow the tech economy across the region. CyberNorth, one of Dynamo’s clusters, recognised by DCMS and NCSC, covers all aspects of cyber resilience including those involved in commercial delivery, research and development, learning, regional resilience and users of technology.
Teesside University has played a role in each #CyberFest so far and this year is no exception. You might think that the cyber security issues are the same the world over yet the Tees Valley has a particular set of industries that are exposed to specific threats. Anyone who has ever driven along the A19 will know that the area’s industry is dominated by commodity and integrated chemical producers. The proposed freeport development adds strength in logistics to the mix.
At the upcoming event we will also be covering two exciting initiatives, the Industrial Digitalisation Technology Centre (IDTC) and the Made Smarter Technology Accelerator and exploring the role that cyber security has in their futures.
