Meet the Accelerators: Teach Me Physio

Each week we’ll be sharing profiles of the early-stage tech companies that are participating in the DigitalCity Accelerator Programme to give you an insight into the exciting digital products and services that are launching in the Tees Valley – watch this space!

This week from our Accelerator Programme we’re introducing Martin Davies, Founding Partner at Teach Me Physio.

In a nutshell, can you share an overview about you and your tech start-up?

My name is Martin Davies and I am the Head Physiotherapist at Active PhysioCare, a private physiotherapy clinic based in Hartlepool. I also am the founder of Teach Me Physio. This is an online teaching resource which has the goal to help improve students’ learning experiences and to inspire students and physiotherapists and drive up the standards of the physiotherapy profession.

We have been in business for 12 months and we have already developed working relationships with universities who have purchased our learning resource to help deliver the physiotherapy curriculum to their students.

How did the initial idea for your business come about?

Following working with a university delivering physiotherapy teaching it was clear that students are in large groups and are restricted in contact time with lecturers and are forced to use other learning resources that can lack reliability and quality. I wanted to create a resource that was of the highest standard to help the learning process for students and used online resources to achieve this goal.

It’s a pleasure to have you on the Accelerator, what were your main reasons behind joining the programme?

I have joined the Accelerator Programme to utilise the expertise that can be provided from the region to maximise how quick and how far I can grow my online learning resource of Teach Me Physio. My goal is to become a recognised provider of quality teaching material that will be fundamental in developing expert physiotherapists.

Where do you see your business, Teach Me Physio in 18 months from now?

Over the next 18 months i would like to see Teach Me Physio being utilised in an increasing number of universities both in the United Kingdom and Internationally. The human body is the same in all countries and the teachings of Teach Me Physio can be used to develop physiotherapists across the globe.
