Demo Day: Seven New Businesses Showcase Their Products & Services

Demo Day provides the businesses on our Fellowship Accelerator Programme with an opportunity to pitch to investors, funding managers, business support partners and the Local Authorities.

Seven businesses presented at Teesside University’s Darlington Campus on 30^th April. They included Britannia Educational Intelligent Systems (BEIS) who is creating digital platforms for the Chinese educational sector, Across the Board Games – a business that is developing a hi-tech board game for the visually impaired, and Alpha Globe that is building an intuitive mobile app to aid wellbeing in children.

The event once again highlighted the diversity of the digital/tech businesses coming through the Fellowship Accelerator. While these new companies were working in areas as differently as entertainment, lifestyle, education and construction, what all of them had in common was that they were involved in creating digital solutions to wider sector problems.

As a result of the event, conversations are now taking place between the businesses and our stakeholder partners around business accommodation, funding opportunities and collaborative projects.

DigitalCity Cluster Innovation Manager Scott Watson said: “This is possibly the most diverse cohort that we have worked with for some time. We have spent the last ten weeks working with the Programme deliverers and business mentors to unlock their potential. We are really pleased with the progress that this group of businesses has made and look forward to monitoring their success.”

The businesses presenting were:

• Wander Films – Developing innovative video marketing and vlog packages
• EnerG Solutions Ltd – A digital energy assessment tool for the construction industry
• Greentree On-line – An ethical web and social media consultancy for community groups and small businesses
• Go Roar International Ltd – Commercialising a social media travel app
• Alpha Globe – Creating a ‘Wellbeing Alphabet’ app for children
• Britannia Educational Intelligent Systems (BEIS)  – An educational technology and consultancy service creating apps for parents, students and teachers in the Chinese market
• Across The Board Games – Developing a tech-based board game linked to an app that will be accessible to the visually impaired.

The Guest Speaker at the event was Sharon Starkey, MD of Stockton-based PR firm Resolution. Sharon delivered an entertaining and inspiring speech about her experiences of running a successful digital business in the Tees Valley.
