Time: 12:00 am - 12:00 am

Event type: Creative Fuse: CAKE

Join Creative Fuse for a slice of therapeutic and nurturing CAKE.

In CAKE 42 we will explore how being in the wild, or nature, supports our creativity and well-being, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic. While this session will be remote, we are going to be celebrating all things wild through multimedia formats and an interactive game.

If you can (broadband/wifi access and weather permitting!), feel free to join us from your favourite nature spot.

In this interactive session, brought to you by the Durham University Creative Fuse NE team, we will explore key issues such as

• how the creative economy supports well-being practices through being in the wild;

• how we can, both professionally and individually, be nurtured and supported by creative engagements with nature

• how natural places and venues provide critical support for creativity and well-being

We’re thrilled to have dynamic speakers with us for this event:

• John Quinn, a County Durham-based creative practitioner and educator who works with young people in natural environments to support learning and wellbeing

• The Barn at Easington in County Durham, an Arts and Educational centre specialising in outdoor nature-based learning

Inviting you to participate!

Even more exciting, we want to invite you to be part of the event too! We are going to play a montage of images, text, soundclips, and video celebrating the ways in which creativity and wellbeing have been nurtured by being in nature during these difficult times. Please contribute a short video, photographs, or audio content (e.g.: a short film, a photograph, a photo of an image or a poem, or audioclipping) that represent ways in which you have been nurtured and supported by nature during these times. It can be anything! Submission guidelines can be accessed here and the deadline to submit is noon on Monday, September 6th.

About CAKE

CAKE (Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange) is Creative Fuse North East’s monthly networking event, bringing together businesses, freelancers, academics, charities and creative practitioners from across the Creative, Digital and IT sectors and wider economy. Each themed CAKE event has expert speakers delivering short presentations that explore opportunities and innovation challenges. The events generate debate, explorative discussion and stimulate new innovative ideas by looking at each event’s theme from a variety of different perspectives – in keeping with the event name, attendees enjoy a slice of delicious cake while they network, when we return safely to in-person events.
